Brisbane Monthly Drive - David Hack Classic
For May, a leisurely drive to sunny Toowoomba to participate in the David Hack Classic. A great day for families, vehicle or aircraft enthusiasts, this will be 23rd David Hack Classic. The event is organised by the local Rotary Club with the support of AEROTEC and the Toowoomba Regional Council in support of the Leukemia Foundation. The mix of classic vehicles and warbirds makes for a special atmosphere. The David Hack Classic regularly attracts anywhere from 400 vehicles and 15 to 30 aircraft. Trophies are given out in over 21 categories.
Cash or Card? Entry is $15.00 per person. Organisers have provided both cash and card facilities for the event at the aerodrome. There will be a portable EFTPOS machine at the public entrance to pay for the entry only (no cash out). There will also be a mobile ATM near the big marquee. Pilots and trade displays may have EFTPOS. Food venues mostly deal in cash.
Joy flights: Some pilots offer joy flights. These are purely organized between the pilot and the person wishing to joy flight. The pilots will charge a fee and have insurance documents you will need to sign.
Tour Instructions
7:00 AM Meet at Caltex Roadhouse – Blacksoil
7:30 AM Depart Blacksoil and drive along Warrego highway to Toowoomba. We will take the Gatton Bypass around Gatton, then continue onto the Old Highway up the range into Toowoomba.
Upon arriving at the top of the range keep left towards James Street.
Follow James Street for the next 3km (approx.). Please note that RED-LIGHT cameras are located at many of the intersections on James Street. Also please pay attention to SPEED LIMITS while driving in Toowoomba.
Keep RIGHT on James Street after passing ANZAC Ave.
After 1.5km (approx..) turn LEFT into TAYLOR St. Travel 800 meters (approx..) then turn RIGHT into GREENWATTLE Street. Follow GREENWATTLE St. Turn LEFT into SPITFIRE ST. and drive on into the airport.
Return Drive Via Hampton and ESK
12:30 PM Meet on Greenwattle St. at 12:30 PM
12:45 PM Drive south on Greenwattle St. Turn left onto Taylor street and travel approx. 8OO M. Turn left onto Tor St. and travel north approx. 3 KM.
At “T”, turn RIGHT onto Hogg St. Drive approx. 2KM then turn LEFT onto New England Highway. Continue on the New England Highway for approx. 45 minutes.
Upon entering Hampton, look for signs to Esk-Hampton Road. Turn RIGHT onto Esk-Hampton Rd. Follow the road until we arrive in ESK around 2:30 PM. Turn RIGHT onto the Brisbane Valley Highway. We will hopefully arrive at Angie’s Country Café (85 Ipswich St. Esk) for a short pitstop
2:15 PM ARRIVE AT ANGIE’S COUNTRY CAFÉ
3:330 pm Depart Angie’s Country Café. Travel north (if you are travelling to the Sunshine Coast) or South Back to Brisbane via Fernvale and Blacksoil.
