The History of Macleans Bridge Classic Car Display

The History of the TSOAQ Macleans Bridge Classic Car Display

Each year on Mothers day, TSOAQ hosts the Macleans Bridge Classic Car Display. The event has its orgins back to the 70's and started in the park adjacent to Macleans Bridge on Beaudesert Road, south-west of Brisbane CBD. After many years in the orginal location it moved to a couple of other locations including Lakeside raceway. The event now has a larger and more established home at the Queensland Rifle Asscoaition complex at Belmont, just east of Brisbane on Old Clevland Rd, near the Chandler sports complex.

This is a huge event with hundreds of classic sports cars and Grand Tourers on display. For people into old or new classic cars, this has always been a must attend event and a great day out.

Over the years TSOAQ, who have tried to keep up with changing car trends, yet remain faithful to the intention of having a special day just for sports and "classic sporting" cars. Each major brand is allocated space, and where practical , the sporting saloons are separated from the sports cars. Vehicles from the 30's to current typically attend: Triumph, Healey, Jaguar, MG, Alfa Romeo, Aston Martin, Ferrari, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Delage, Morgan, Rolls-Royce, Benetly, AC, Lotus, Allard, Bolwell, NIssan, to name a few.

Car clubs are encouraged to have a place where existing & prospective members can come for information, support etc. Many clubs have well-organised BBQ's etc.. The TSOAQ runs a competition for "best car of the day", that all entrants and public can vote for. There is organised parking for about 700 cars, and plenty of room for non-display cars, so dont avoid coming just beacuse you dont have a show car.

As with all big events, it requires lots of helpers on the day. Whilst the committee do most of the hard work to organise the event, they do need the help of handful of TSOAQ and other car club members on Saturday, to mark out the paddock and on Sunday, to man the gates etc. If you would like to assist , please contact your favorite TSOAQ committee member today.

Mothers Day is always celebrated on the 2nd Sunday in May, but always check the TSOAQ events Calendar for the latest info. Pictures in the Previous Events tab show some of the past events and create the event well known by the classic car community, as "Mac's Bridge" .©
